This is a collaboration project that I did with three other talented artists under the mentorship of professional artists from The Mill. We had to create a mock commercial for a vehicle. Therefore, our team decided to use the Ducati concept bike as our vehicle. As it passes through the portal from the cyberpunk city and enters the modern world, the bike transforms back to the look of the Ducati concept bike with wheels instead of the rocket engine. It illustrates the concept of our tagline which is that “The future is now.”
Two shots contain various different kinds of visual effects such as set extension, day to night, engine FX, and Portal FX, and I was in charge of making the portal. It was created in Houdini and rendered with Mantra. I created several layers of particle effects to create the portal. I also created a distortion map for the compositor to add heat distortion onto the portal in compositing. I am really happy with how it turned out, and I learned a lot from my teammates.
